13. I have my own personal medical insurance. When is it appropriate to use workers' compensation rather than going through my own physician?

Group health insurance does not provide coverage for an on-the-job injury. When an employee suffers an injury that arises out of and in the course of employment, it is covered by workers' compensation. Workers' compensation provides a weekly indemnity benefit. The injured worker is entitled to receive two-thirds of his average weekly wage, but not more than $425 per week (as of July 1, 2003). The injured worker may choose a physician from the employer's posted Panel of Physicians. If the employee is dissatisfied with his first selection, he may make one change to another physician from the posted panel. Medical bills are covered 100% if the employer authorizes the physician.
